The ear tips may be a darker similar shade or colour.
White (15) dogz use Cream (45) for shading when present.
Tan: Black (35) with White (15) Cream (45) Tan (105) Ivory (Texture) or brindle in the traditional pattern.
Legs may lack tan, have tan only on the toes/fingers (may or may not include feet/paws) or in the normal pattern (paws and lower legs).
Lack of tan on the legs is not a fault, but some degree of tan on the legs is preferred.

Shading: In Solids and Brindles, the upper body (+/- head, tail - all shorthaired areas) can be a darker shade or darker related colour. It is allowed for brindles to have brindling only on this area, with the rest of the dog (i.e. all longhaired areas) appearing solid.

Notes

Originally bred to hunt gazelles, the Afghan Hound is a superb sprinter. The breed was once divided into two types: the shorter and heavier mountain type with a longer coat, and the more elongated shorthaired lowland type.

In 1907, a dog named Zardin was exported to Britain, and he stood model for the breed standard that is used even today.

The Afghan Hound is an elegant breed, carrying its head high and with a gaze that appear to see straight through the spectator. The head is long without being too thin, with a typical topknot of fur on the forehead. The ears are set low and carried close to the head. The neck is long and carried proudly. The body should have a strong and straight back and deep chest. The hind legs are heavily angulated, while the frontlegs are straight. The paws are unusually large in the breed, more clearly visible thanks to the long fur. The coat is long and very fine, longer on the chest and legs and shorter on the face and tail, which may have feathers of long hair. Some dogs have beards.
