Notes
The Hungarian Greyhound is an original hunting breed. His origin goes back to the times when the Magyars conquered the country. This is proved by archeological findings of skull bones. To increase the dog’s speed the breed was crossed with different sighthound breeds in the 19th century. Excellent on the race-course; the Hungarian Greyhound is, on some distances, faster than the Greyhound. It's is watchful instinct to protect people and their property is developed, yet the Hungarian Greyhound is not aggressive or vicious.
The Hungarian Greyhound is a medium sized, elegant and slightly rectangular dog, very fast and with great endurance. It is slightly reserved but friendly. The head should be wedge-shaped, with rather large skull and powerful muzzle. The eyes should have an alert expression. The ears are of medium size, set rather high and typical rose ears. The neck is of medium length, strong and elegant. The chest is very well developed, with rather straight topline and moderate tuck up. The tail is long and slightly curved. The coat is short but rather coarse.
