Notes
The Greyhound has looked the same for more or less 3000 years, and dogs depicted in Egyptian graves are clearly of Greyhound-type. The breed was found in Britain even before the Romans came, but it was when they brought their dogs that the breed type was established. Later the Greyhound was viewed so efficient as a hunter, that only the nobility was allowed to own it.
The Greyhound can run at 70 km/h and has been kept as a racing dog since the 1500's. Today, there is a difference in looks between a racing Greyhound and a show Greyhound, but they are both calm and loving dogs.
It is not sure where the name 'Greyhound' comes from, but it could be from latin 'graius', which means 'of greek heritage'.
The Greyhound should give the impression of a tall and powerfully built dog with good proportion, a good amount of muzzle and beautiful lines. The head is long and thin with little stop, eyes small with a lively expression. The neck is long, muscular and with an elegant arch. The chest is deep with good tuck up and long, slightly curved topline. Straight front legs and well angled hind. The tail is set low.
