Notes

The Cane Corso is believed to be a very old type of dog, and was originally kept as a watchdog. Even today it requires a fair amount of socialization and training to become a well-mannered pet.

This breed was once close to the brink of extinction, and it was not until the strong and elegant male Dauno was used in the breeding program, that the Cane Corso made a real return. Today it can be found in several countries beside Italy, where it was first created.

The Cane Corso should appear medium sized, slightly rectangular in shape, with great agility, very alert and radiating confidence. The head is powerful with a heavy muzzle which should be shorter than the head and somewhat of a dish face. The ears can be cropped or natural. The neck is dry with an oval shape, the body is compact with a deep and long chest. The body's top and under lines should be almost parallell. The legs are muscular and well angled. The tail can be docked or natural.
