Notes

The Bavarian Mountain Hound is a German breed with an outstanding ability to track cold trails. It was bred to track down wounded game across steep mountain slopes. Its tracking ability is so strong that it can distinguish between what it's tracking and other animals of the same species! The breed was developed in the 1870s by crossing Hanoverian Hounds with Mountain Scenthounds, and the Bavarian Mountain Hound still closely resembles a smaller version of the Hanoverian Hound.

Lightweight and medium-sized, the Bavarian Mountain Hound is a balanced, agile dog. It is slightly longer than it is high. The breed is most typically seen with a reddish brown coat, often interspersed with black hairs.
