Notes
Studies show that the Siberian Husky might be the dog that is closest related to the wolf. It originates from dogs that belonged to the Chuckchis in the northern parts of Siberia. These dogs were famous not only for being fast sled dogs, but also for being friendlier than other similar breeds. One of the most famous breeders was the Norweigan Leonard Seppala, who won all major sled dog trials for more than 20 years with his huskies. Siberian Huskies became world famous in 1925 when they brought medicine to Nome, Alaska. Without the dogs' help, the mission never would have succeeded. It is said to be the fastest of all sled dog breeds.
The Siberian Husky should have a head that is powerful without being coarse, with well marked stop and rounded muzzle. The eyes have a lively expression. The ears are of medium size, triangular and set high on the head. The neck is of medium length, powerful and slightly bow-shaped. The body is rectangular with straight back, and a deep and long chest. The legs are very important in a sled dog. They should have moderate angulation in front and hind, good boning without being heavy and straight. The tail is set right below the back, carried hanging or curved up when the dog is alert. The coat is double, giving the impression of a dog that is well covered in thick hair, but not so long that it hides the lines.
