Salt and Pepper: Overall appearance is a pepper/salt mixture with markings like traditional Tan:
Grey (25) Blue (115) with White (15) blended together (furfile) for lighter dogs.
Grey (25) Blue (115) with or without Black (35) tipping. The tipping may be equal all over the dog, heavier on the upper body or heavier on the upper legs.
Must have White (15) markings, blended (Grey (25) Blue (115) with White (15)) markings, or a combination of the two placed like traditional Tan markings (may lack eye spots without fault and may have single chest patch instead of two).
If combining blended and solid White (15) markings, the blended should be closer to the body. Paws should remain solid White (15).
The muzzle is preferred to have a dark portion using Black (35). The dark portion may range from covering just the cheeks or snout, to the whole face, or anything inbetween.

Notes

The Standard Schnauzer is believed to be the original Schnauzer variety, and was once known as 'Wirehaired Pinscher' or simply 'Rat Dog'. It lived on farms and did not recieve much attention, but was viewed as your average dog. It wasn't until the 1800s that the breed got any sort of attention, and it was in 1842 that we first hear the word 'Schnauzer'. It is not known where this name comes from, but it might be from German 'schnauze', which means 'nose'.

The Standard Schnauzer should be a medium size, square-shaped, wirehaired and compact dog. The head is powerful and elongated, the stop further marked by the eyebrows. The muzzle should have the shape of a rounded wedge. The ears are set high, carried erect, tipped over or cropped. The neck is powerful and carried high. The body should be as long as it is tall, with a deep chest, slight tuck up and slightly sloping topline. Straight frontlegs with well angulated hind. The tail is set high, natural or docked. The coat is wirey, very hard and thick, forming a long beard and scruffy eyebrows.
