Notes
Also known as the Kleiner Münsterländer, the Small Munsterlander is a German pointing dog. It originates from the Münster area, and is an old local breed that has looked the same for hundreds of years. It was mainly Edmund Löns who turned the Münsterländer into a true breed rather than a local type of hunting dog in the late 1800's. He called the dogs 'Heidewachtel', and they came in two varities; Heitman Schlag, and Dortener Schlag. These dogs later became known as the Large and Small Münsterländer breeds.
The Small Munsterlander should appear to be medium sized, elegant and noble yet poweful. The head is noble, dry with marked stop and long, straight and powerful muzzle. the ears are broad, set high and rather flat. The neck is of medium length, powerful with a slight arch. The body is of medium length, with a deep chest and slight tuck up. The legs are well angulated. the tail is carried horizontal except for the last third which is carried a bit higher.
