Notes

The Vizsla's ancestors are believed to have come to Hungary in the 800's via settlers, and most likely other breeds were crossed in as well to create the modern breed. There are descriptions that tell of yellow dogs that the Turks brought with them when they invaded Hungary in the 1500's. These dogs were crossed with German and British pointers to create the modern Vizsla. In Britain and the USA, the breed has become a popular show dog, whereas it is still mainly a hunter in other countries.

The Vizsla should have a dry and noble head, with rather broad skull, slight stop and powerful jaws. The eyes should have a lively expression. The ears are of medium length, set at medium height and with rounded tips. The body is short with straight back, deep chest and light tuck up. Straight front legs, moderate angulation in hind. The tail held horizontally during movement.
