The Petz Community has lots of lingo, slang, and unique terminology developed by its members over the decades. Here is a guide to the most common and relevant terms seen in a typical Petz Community space. 😸

A

  • AC Refers to the adoption center in the game.
  • Addball
    Extra balls on a Petz body—used in original breeds for features like ears. They can also be hexed on to create just about anything.
  • Alley
    Alley Cat

B

  • Batch Breeder
    A Petza fork from PrismMirrorLens- a feature that lets you breed multiple babies from a chosen pair with one click.
  • BIS Best In Show – the top award a pet can earn in a show, usually worth 5 points.
  • Brexing/Brex/Brexie Brexing is editing a bred pet's appearance through hexing. A brex (or brexie) is a pet that’s been modified this way. A brexie's offspring do not inherit the hexed changes.
  • BW/B+W/B&W/BWSH
    Black and White Shorthair

C

  • Cali Calico
  • Call name A petz everyday name used in-game, separate from its formal show name.
  • Chi Chihuahua
  • Chinchi/Chinchilla Chinchilla Persian
  • .clo A downloadable piece of clothing for your petz. To use it, place the file in your Resource/Clothes folder.
  • Crew A term for someone’s personal collection of petz.

D

  • Dachie Dachshund
  • Dali Dalmatian
  • Dali Pose Dogz posed with their head facing the camera, reference here.
  • Dane Pose Dogz posed with their head in profile, reference here.
  • DG Duke's Group: a Petz community focused on natural raising & gameplay.
  • DoPP Department of Petz Preservation: An online archive dedicated to preserving petz content!
  • DQ Short for Disqualify, used when an invalid entry is submitted to a Petz show, contest, or challenge

E

  • EBW Everybody Wins shows, where every entry earns at least 1 point.
  • .env A playscene file. Place it in the resource/area folder to use.
  • External Breedfile A downloadable breedfile that appears separately from OBs in the AC. Generally less favored than OWs by much of the PC.
  • External Texture A texture file not included with the base game. Save it in a specific location to use it in your game. If you get a pet with an external texture and the OP doesn’t provide the file path, open the pet in LNZ and check the "[Texture List]" for the path.
  • Exotic A popular selective breed, a "Persian mix with shorthair coat, calico legs and body preferred."
  • EZLoader "The Petz EZLoader is a specialized mod management tool that allows you to easily organize and manage your custom Petz/Babyz content." Created by Skissors@Alive Enough.

F

  • Fantasy(z) A breed or pet hexed to resemble a fantasy creature, rather than a typical cat or dog.
  • Finnicky Describes a dog with a Poodle personality or a cat with a Siamese personality.
  • Fluxing Converting a .pet file from Petz 5 to Petz 3/4 using Petflux by Reflet@Yabiko.
  • Furfiles Used interchangeably with "textures."

G

  • GenePoolz A useful breeding utility by Reflet@Yabiko that displays both the dominant and recessive genes of a pet.
  • Genexing A type of hexing that alters a petz genetics. Unlike with brexing, these changes are inheritable and passed to offspring.
  • Golden/Goldie Golden Retriever
  • GSD German Shepherd (Dog)

H

  • Hexing Modifying breedfiles (and creating toyz, clothez, or playscenes) using tools like LNZpro, Petz Workshop, or LNZLive to change appearance. The term comes from the early method of editing a file’s hexadecimal code.
  • Hex/Hexie/Hexed Petz A .pet adopted from a hexed breedfile. Hexies don’t breed true and are usually treated as collectibles. It's generally considered impolite to ask for one without offering something in return, though hexers sometimes offer them freely through adoptions or hexing services.
  • Hexed Lineage A term for a bred pet with a hexed ancestor. Certain traits, like scales (size), can only be passed down through hexed lineage.
  • HM Honorable Mention – The lowest show placement, worth 1 point.
  • HB Honey Bear
  • Hound Dane mix with Dalmatian ears.
  • Hybrid show A show type that accepts multiple pose styles—e.g., both dane and dali poses.

I

  • ID Clash Each item, from breedfiles to toyz to clothez, has a unique ID number for identification. If two items share the same ID, it causes conflicts, preventing one or both items from appearing, or may even crash the game.
  • Inbreeding/Inbred Breeding petz that are related.
  • Internal Texture Textures that are canon to the base game.

J

  • JBob Japanese Bobtail
  • JR(T) Jack Russell (Terrier)

L

  • LNZ Pro A hex editor by Sherlock Software that allows you to look at and edit the coding of a breed or pet, a common tool for hexing.
  • LTP Laptop Pony a popular miniature horse file created by Rafa@Matador.

M

  • Marking Factor The markings a pet has or carries, as seen in Genepoolz, and the likelihood and intensity it may appear on a pet. For example, a Low Marking Factor Dali has fewer spots, or may appear to have none at all, while a High Marking Factor Dali has many spots.
  • MC Maine Coon
  • Meezer Siamese
  • Milk The babyz game has it's very own community, called Milk. Also referred to as the the BC or Babyz Community.
  • Mini A pet smaller than others of its breed, often due to hexed lineage or breed mixing. Extra-mini petz were once also called micros or liliputz.
  • Mixed breed/mixie A pet that has more than one breed in its lineage.
  • MPA My Pet Adoption – Petz bred or adopted by the OP for their crew, then rehomed.
  • Mutation When offspring are born with a new coat, eyelid, or eye color not seen in their ancestors. Only the female's genetics can mutate in a breeding pair.

  • NIB Non-inbred

O

  • OB Original Breed - a breed that comes with the game, unaltered.
  • Oshie Orange Shorthair
  • Overpose While posing, petz may occasionally overextend its body parts, resulting in a faulty pose like so.
  • OW Overwrite – A breedfile that replaces one of your original breedz, often used in breeding to alter offspring appearance. Preferred by most of the community over external breedfiles. Be sure to keep backups of your OBs!

P

  • PAAC Petz Auto Adoption Club – A Petz Discord focused on automated adoptions through a bot.
  • Paintballs This is what many spots and markings are made of, like pawpads, dali spots, and calico patches. They can also be hexed on.
  • Palette Swapping A hexing technique that lets you apply custom color palettes to a pet, bypassing the standard Petz palette. The "swapped" palette is saved in LNZ, and only affects the edited pet. Cannot be passed down to offspring. Requires the updated PetzA fork by PrismMirrorLens.
  • Papi Papillion
  • PC Petz Community – Refers to all Petz players collectively.
  • PCS Petz Citizen Scheme, a non-competitive show hosted by Nebula on WW and PL, focusing on completing a series of gameplay tasks.
  • PetzA A third-party add-on originally created by Sherlock Software, now maintained by MirrorPrismLens on Ratshack.
  • Petzcord The largest active Petz Discord server with over 1000 members. Largely a discussion server.
  • PetzU Petz Community College: A collection of petzy tutorials and knowledge to making learning accessible to all petz players.
  • PFM PF.Magic/Pure Fucking Magic, the company that developed the Petz, Babyz and Oddballz games - With the exception of Petz 5, which was developed by Ubisoft after purchasing the Petz licensing.
  • PKC Petz Kennel Club a defunct showing community that namely focused on more realistic-looking petz. There are ongoing efforts to revitalize it.
  • PL Petz Life is an active 18+ petz community spanning a forum, Discord (its most active platform), and a Bazaar, popular among veteran players with an old-school PC vibe.
  • Playdate Sending your petz over to someone else to play with their petz and/or other attendees.
  • POL/POTL "Pick of the Litter" The breeder's favorite of the litter.
  • POMS Petz on Mainstreet, an abbreviation for the Petz Life brand, serving as the central hub for all things petzy.
  • Pooftail An extra thick/fluffy tail (catz: Maine Coon, Persian, Oshie or Chinchi; dogz: Sheepdog). Other body parts may also be described as "poofy."
  • Prefix A prefix (name, word, or letters) added to a petz showname to credit the breeder/hexer. E.g., PFM's No Drama. You choose the prefix for petz you create!
  • PSC Depending on the context, it can refer to either Petz Show Club, a Discord community that uses a bot to streamline the showing process, or Petz Show Companion, a site for hosting pose pics and tracking points & titles.
  • Purebred A pet that has one breed and one breed only in its lineage.
  • PWS
    Petz Workshop is a visual hexing tool by Sherlock Software, designed to complement LNZ as it doesn’t anchor nor texture paintballs, among other things.

R

  • Raising Naturally Allowing a pet to grow to adulthood at the game's natural pace, without using PetzA to fast-forward aging.
  • RB Russian Blue
  • Realistic breed A breed hexed to closely resemble a real-life breed, often for showing in the PKC. Features may include angled legs, addball claws, liplines, and more.
  • RKC One of the longest-running active Petz forums, popular for hosting shows, sharing adoptions, and discussing all things Petz.

S

  • SB Selective Breed, petz bred for specific traits to create a distinct, new-looking breed.. View the SB masterlist here.
  • Scales Scales refer to a petz size. SCP is also inherited along with scales. For example, a pet with Bulldog scales will have a Bulldog voice. Default scales can be easily viewed in Genepoolz.
  • SCP Stands for script. Part of the breed file that determines a pet's breed specific characteristics, based off their head & scales (e.g like their voice) Related to a petz scales.
  • Selfie Eyelids Eyelids that are the same color as the petz coat.
  • SF Scottish Fold
  • Sheepie Sheepdog
  • Shorthair Black and White Shorthair
  • Shortie A pet with short legs- typically a dog with Dachie legs.
  • Show Name A unique name given to a show pet, separate from its call name. It includes a prefix and sometimes a suffix. For example, a dog named Bootz might have the show name PFM's These Bootz Were Made for Walking.
  • Show Pose Petz have a special animation they perform to show off, such as posing after coming out of the carrying case, reacting to the camera, or after putting on clothes! Petting your pet encourages more posing. View some poses here.
  • Skinny Pose When posing, a pet may fail to puff out its chest, resulting in a less dynamic, skinnier pose. Here’s an example from Amanda@Cargo, the pink overlay is the skinny pose. This is often an automatic DQ or HM in shows.
  • Slothy Eyes
    Eyes that are colored 173-174 from the color chart.
  • SS Seeing Stars: A Petz community that focuses on hexed horse breedz.
  • Stamp A popular collectible graphic resembling a postcard stamp.
  • Sturdy A popular SB: A dachie head on a lab body.
  • Suffix A name, word, or acronym added to the end of a pet’s showname, often indicating the petz origins or current owner. For example: PFM's No Drama at Billywix's.
  • Sleepy Sickness Petz that relax and fall asleep when picked up and put down. This trait can be hexed out in LNZ, as it's considered undesirable when showing petz.

T

  • Tamsin The grandfather of all SBs: A Dali with mutt patches. Other markings are optional.
  • Trickster Petz that perform tricks! They need 100 Dogginess for treat-based tricks and high Acrobaticness for sports like frisbee. You can check these stats in GoalDescriptorAnalyzer. Learn more about petz stats here.
  • Title A prefix added to your petz' name to show how many points it has earned. Common examples include Ch., GCh., SGCh., and more. You can view a full list here.
  • .toy A downloadable toy for your petz. To use it, place the file in your *Resource/Toyz * folder.
  • TPB The Petz Bazaar, a virtual Petz marketplace managed by the PL staff, where you can buy and sell petz and game content with a virtual currency.
  • Trotter/Trotting A personality trait inherited from Sheepies that gives dogz a distinctive trotting walk. Trotters also flop flat when picked up and set down. The term mainly refers to dogz, though catz can trot too—it's just less commonly noted.

V

  • Velveteen A popular SB: A cat mixie featuring a BW Shorthair or Maine Coon face paired with a Persian personality.

W

  • Wildz A breed or pet hexed to resemble a real-life wild animal that isn’t a typical cat or dog.
  • WIP Work in Progress
  • WW Whiskerwick: An all around Petz forum that features it's own virtual currency system to buy and sell all things petzy! WW also has it's very own Discord server.
